About Please Driver (Once Around The Park Again)
Chilton Price was from Kentucky and played violin in the Louisville Orchestra in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1950, she was working as a music librarian at a local radio station and the opportunity to show Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart some of the songs she had composed. They helped her get started with introductions in the music industry. In addition to “Please Driver,” she is also known for “You Belong To Me,” which was recorded by Dean Martin and Jo Stafford, among others. Born in 1913, Ms. Price passed away in 2010, at the age of 96.

Lyrics

Please driver, drive around the park again
I’m all alone tonight
Though it’s wrong I know to miss her so
No one else would seem quite right

So please driver, once around the park again
You’ve heard this tale before
I could call some friend but why pretend
In the end, I’d miss her more

She used to love the park in winter
The trees tonight are snowy white
We drove around like this ’til dawn last New Year’s Eve
To think she’d leave me

Please driver, once around the park again
I can’t believe she’s gone
If she only knew, but why bore you
Such is life and life goes on.
