About On The Sunny Side of the Street
“On The Sunny Side of the Street” was introduced in Lew Leslie’s International Revue. The song was one of the first in a series of cheerful songs to try to cheer people up over the Great Depression. It has proven popular with singers, who love the wonderful Fields lyrics, and jazz players, who love McHugh’s swingy tune.

Lyrics

Grab your coat and get your hat
Leave your worries on the doorstep
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street

Can’t you hear the pit-a-pat?
And that happy tune is your step
Life can be complete
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade
With those blues on parade
But I’m not afraid
Because this rover crossed over

And if I never had a cent
I’d be rich as Rockefeller
With gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade
With those blues on parade
But I’m not afraid
Because this rover crossed over

And if I never had a cent
I’d be rich as Rockefeller
With gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street
