Lyrics

It’s like reaching for the moon
It’s like reaching for the sun
It’s like reaching for the stars
Reaching for you

You’re so far above me
How can I expect an an angel to love me
Who is so divine as you are?

It’s like flying without wings
Playing fiddle without strings
And a million other things
No one can do

No, my hopes are slender
In my secret heart I pray
You’ll surrender soon
No, it’s like reaching for the moon

About It’s a Sin To Tell a Lie
“It’s a Sin To Tell a Lie” was originally introduced by Fats Waller. It’s been recorded by artists from Billie Holiday to Steve Goodman to Slim Whitman to Patti Page. And, of course, Tony Bennett.

Lyrics

Be sure it’s true when you say
“I love you”
It’s a sin to tell a lie
Millions of hearts have been broken
Just because one word was spokenI love you
Yes I do
I love you
If you break my heart I’ll die
So be sure that it’s true when you say
“I love you”
It’s sin to tell a lie

About If We Never Meet Again
Armstrong recorded his song in 1936.

Lyrics

If we never meet again,
I’ll have a rose to remember
The snows of December
Will bring you back to me.
If we never meet again,
I’ll fall asleep in the flowers
Dream of the hours
We spent in ecstacy

The leaves in the fall
Will wreak of the beauty
I found in your eyes
The birds in the spring
When they sing
Will tell me that love never dies

If we never meet again,
As sure as heaven above you
Forever I’ll love you,
If we never meet again.

The leaves in the fall
Will wreak of the beauty
I found in your eyes
The birds in the spring
When they sing
Will tell me that love never dies

If we never meet again
As sure as heaven above you
Forever I’ll love you,
If we never meet again

About Goody, Goody
This swinging little song concerns a man who thinks he can get away with playing the field without his girlfriend, but she finds out and sings her sweet revenge. The song was quite popular in the 1930s, mostly due to a Benny Goodman recording with Helen Ward on vocals. Other significant recordings include those by Mabel Mercer, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Crosby and others. I suspect this recording from Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga will join the list.

Lyrics

So you met someone who set you back on your heels, goody goody!
So you met someone and now you know how it feels, goody goody!
Well you gave him your heart too, just as I gave mine to you
And he broke it in little pieces, now how do you do?

So you lie awake just singing the blues all night, goody goody!
And you found that loves a barrel of dynamite!
Hurray and hallelujah, you had it comin to ya
Goody goody for you! goody goody for me! ya I hope you`re
Satisfied you rascal you!

Paul McCartney recorded it for his 2012 album of standards, Kisses On The Bottom.

Lyrics

You’ve got to give a little, take a little
And let your poor heart to break a little
That’s the story of
That’s the glory of love

You’ve got to laugh a little, cry a little
Until the clouds roll by a little
That’s the story of
That’s the glory of love

As long as there’s the two of us
We’ve got the world and all it’s charms
And when the world is through with us
We’ve got each others arms

You’ve got to win a little, lose a little
And always have to blues a little
That’s the story of
That’s the glory of love
