Lyrics

Though you say we’re through, I’ll always love you
You know can depend on me
Though someone you’ve met has made you forget
You know, you can count on me

Now I wish you success and loads of happiness
But I must confess I’ll be lonely
But if you ever need a friend, I’m yours till the end
And you can count on me

I wish you success, loads of happiness
But I must confess I’ll be lonely
But if you ever need a friend, I’m yours till the end
And you can depend on me

And you can depend on me

About Willow Weep For Me
“Willow Weep For Me” was written by a Radcliffe student named Ann Ronell. She encountered some initial trouble in getting the song published, but once Irving Berlin decided to publish the song, it began to take off. The first recording was made by Ted Fio Rito, with vocals by Muzzy Marcellino. The song became a jazz standard and has been recorded by many fine jazz artists, including Art Tatum, Dinah Washington, Stan Kenton, Thelonius Monk, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.

Lyrics

Willow weep for me
Willow weep for me
Bend your branches green along the stream that runs to sea
Listen to my plea
Hear me willow and weep for me

Gone my lovers dream
Lovely summer dream
Gone and left me here to weep my tears into the stream
Sad as I can be
Hear me willow and weep for me

Whisper to the wind and say that love has sinned
Left my heart a-breaking, and making a moan
Murmur to the night to hide its starry light
So none will see me sighing and crying all alone

Weeping willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me
When the shadows fall, hear me willow and weep for me

Oh, Weeping willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me
When the shadows fall, hear me willow and weep for me

About That’s My Home
The René brothers, Leon and Otis, were born in Covington, Louisiana at the turn of the 20th century. They wrote several well-known R&B songs, including “When It’s Sleepy Time Down South.” In addition to composing, they also created and ran several label and even a record pressing plant. Louis Armstrong was the first to record “That’s My Home.”

Lyrics

Where the sun sets in the sky
And the flowers never die
And friends don’t pass you by
That’s my home

Where the folk say, How do you do?
They really mean it too
Whereas mama’s love is true
That’s my home

I’m always welcome back
No matter where I roam
It’s just a little shack
But to me, it’s home sweet home

Where the Swanee river flows
And the shady pine trees grow
Then I know, I really know
That’s my home

I’m always welcome back
No matter where I roam
It’s just a little shack
But to me, it’s home sweet home

Where the Swanee river flows
And the shady pine trees grow
And then I know, I really know
That’s my home, going home

About Street of Dreams
“Street of Dreams” has a classic depression-era sense, where love is one of the few things that may be impossible for those with money, but “no one is poor as long as love is sure.” Bing Crosby was the first singer to record “Street of Dreams”, though the Russ Columbo recording was also popular.

Lyrics

Love laughs at a king
Kings don’t mean a thing
On the street of dreams

Dreams broken in two
Can be made like new
On the street of dreams

Gold, silver and gold
All you can hold
Is in the moonbeam

Poor, no one is poor
As long as love is sure
On the street of dreams

Gold, silver and gold
All you can hold
Is in the moonbeam

Poor, no one is poor
As long as love is sure
On the street of dreams

Sophisticated Lady

About Sophisticated Lady
Duke Ellington wrote “Sophisticated Lady” in 1932 as an instrumental. Lyrics were added later by Mitchell Parish. Ellington is said to have been inspired to write this song by two of his grade school teachers, who toured Europe in the summers after teaching all year. “To me that spelled sophistication.” “Sophisticated Lady” was first recorded in 1933 on the flip side with Harold Arlen’s Stormy Weather. It is, of course, one of Ellington’s most popular and often-played songs. In addition to numerous recordings by Ellington over the years, the song has been recorded by Art Tatum, Anita O’Day, Billie Holiday, Billy Eckstine, Johnny Hodges, Sarah Vaughan, and Glenn Miller.

Lyrics

They say into your early life romance came
And in this heart of yours burned a flame
A flame that flickered one day and died away
Then, with disillusion deep in your eyes
You learned that fools in love soon grow wise
The years have changed you, somehow
I see you now

Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant
Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant
Is that all you really want?
No, sophisticated lady,
I know, you miss the love you lost long ago
And when nobody is nigh you cry

Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant
Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant
Is that all you really want?
No, sophisticated lady,
I know, you miss the love you lost long ago
And when nobody is nigh you cry
