About This Heart of Mine
“This Heart of Mine” was written for the 1946 film Ziegfeld Follies, which starred Fred Astaire who introduced the song.

Lyrics

Maybe it was the music
Or that heavenly sky of blue
Maybe it was the mood I was in
Or maybe it was really you, really you

This heart of mine was doing very well
The world was fine as far as I could tell
And then quite suddenly I met you and I dreamed of gay amours
At dawn I woke up singing sentimental overtures

This heart of mine is gaily dancing now
I taste the wine of real romancing now
Somehow this crazy world has taken on a wonderful design
As long as life endures it’s yours, this heart of mine

This heart of mine is gaily dancing now
I taste the wine of real romancing now
Somehow this crazy world has taken on a wonderful design
As long as life endures it’s yours, this heart of mine

As long as life endures it’s yours, this heart of mine
This heart of mine, this heart of mine

They Say It’s Wonderful

About They Say It’s Wonderful
“They Say It’s Wonderful” is from Berlin’s 1946 musical Annie Get Your Gun. This song was a duet between Annie Oakley (Ethel Merman) and Frank Butler (Ray Middleton). It’s a beautiful ballad that has had many fine recordings, including those by Tony Bennett, Doris Day, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland.

Lyrics

They say that falling in love is wonderful
It’s wonderful, so they say
And with a moon up above, it’s wonderful
It’s wonderful, so they tell me

I can’t recall who said it, I know, I never read it
I only know they tell me that love is grand and
The thing that’s known as romance
Is wonderful, wonderful, in every way, so they say

Rumors fly and they often leave a doubt
But you’ve come to the right place to find out
Everything that you’ve heard is really so
I’ve been there once or twice and I should know

You’ll find that falling in love is wonderful
It’s wonderful, as they say
And with the moon up above, it’s wonderful
It’s wonderful, as they tell you

You leave your house some morning and without any warning
You’re stopping people, shouting that love is grand and
To hold a man in your arms is wonderful
Wonderful, in every way, I should say

About Tenderly
“Tenderly”, originally written in 3/4 time, morphed into 4/4 time and became a major jazz standard, with recordings by many of the the great jazz performers in the 1950s, both vocal and instrumental.

Lyrics

You took my lips you took my love
So tenderly
The evening breeze caress the trees
Tenderly
The trembling tress embrace the breeze
Tenderly
Then you and i came wandering by
And lost in a sigh were we
The shore was kissed by sea and mist
Tenderly
I can’t forget how two hearts met
Breathlessly
Your arms opened wide
And closed me in inside
You took my lips you took my love
So tenderly
Then you and i came wandering by
And lost in a sigh were we
The shore was kissed by sea and mist
Tenderly
I can’t forget when two hearts met breathlessly
Your arms opened wide and closed me inside
You took my lips you took my love
So tenderly

About Nobody Else But Me
“Nobody Else But Me” was written for the 1946 Broadway revival of Show Boat, replacing a reprise of “Why Do I Love You?” near the end of Act Two. It was the last song that Jerome Kern wrote; he died shortly before the 1946 production opened. This song has been used in other revivals as well.

Lyrics

I want to be no one but me
I am in love with a lady who likes me the way I am
I have my faults, she likes my faults
I’m not very bright, she’s not very bright

She thinks I’m grand, that’s grand for me
She may be wrong, but if we get along
What do we care? Say we

Walking on the shore, swimming in the sea
When I am with her, I’m glad the boy who’s with her
Is nobody else but me

About Let The Good Times Roll
This song, known as a “jump blues” song, was written by Sam Theard, a New Orleans singer and songwriter, with his wife, Fleecie Moore. Residents and visitors to New Orleans may be more familiar with the French version of the saying: Laissez le bon temps rouler. The first recording was in 1946 by Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five. The song charted well on the Billboard R&B chart. Other recordings include those by Ray Charles, George Fame and the Blue Flames, Muddy Waters and Clifton Chenier. B.B. King recorded “Let The Good Times Roll” in 1999.

Lyrics

Hey, everybody, let’s have some fun
You only live but once
And when you’re dead you’re done

So let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
I don’t care if you’re young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

Don’t sit there mumblin’, talkin’ trash
If you wanna have a ball
You gotta spend some cash

So let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
I don’t care if you’re young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

Hey Mr. Landlord, lock up all the doors
When the police comes around
Just tell them that the joint is closed

And let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
I don’t care if you’re young or old
Get together and let the good times roll

Hey everybody, tell everybody
That B.B.’s in town
I got a dollar and a quarter
Just rarin’ to clown
But don’t let nobody play me cheap
I got fifty cents more that I’m gonna keep

So let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
I don’t care if you’re young or old
Get together and let the good times roll
