About The Moment of Truth
“The Moment of Truth” has been recorded by Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and Bing Crosby.

Lyrics

If you hear music when she’s near you
And Christmas comes ev’ry day of the year
Then you must know why it’s the first clue
That the moment of truth is near

If ev’ry time she glances your way
A million bells start to ring loud and clear
And, after one kiss, you yell “Mayday!”
Then the moment of truth is near

There will come a day when she looks at you
Thrills you through and through and calls your name
That will be the day when you say “I do”
’cause you’ve discovered that you’ve grown tired of playin’ the game”

And then you both know you’re through schemin’
*”Oh Promise Me”* starts to sing in your ear
You’re wide-awake, boy, you’re not dreamin’
’cause when you say “I do”, the moment of truth
At last is here!

There will come a day when she looks at you
Thrills you through and through and calls your name
That will be the day when you say “I do”
’cause you’ve discovered that you’ve grown tired of playin’ the game”

And then you both know you’re through schemin’
“Oh Promise Me” starts to sing in your ear
You’re wide-awake, boy, you’re not dreamin’
’cause when you say “I do”, the moment of truth
At last is here!

About Maybe This Time
“Maybe This Time” appeared in the film version of was Cabaret. It was not written for the original Broadway production. Nor was it written especially for the film version; Kander and Ebb had written the song in 1963 for Kaye Ballard. It was therefore not eligible for consideration for an Academy Award. The song is, of course, widely associated with Liza Minnelli, who sang it in the film version of Cabaret. Tony Bennett sings the song regularly at his concerts.

Lyrics

Maybe this time, I’ll be lucky
Maybe this time she’ll stay
Maybe this time, for the first time
Love won’t wander away

She’s gonna hold me fast
And I’ll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Not like the last time, and the time before

Everybody loves a winner
But nobody loves me
Mr. Peaceful, Mr. Happy
That’s what I want to be

All of the odds are, in my favor
Something’s bound to begin
It’s gotta happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I’ll win

About The Little Boy
“The Little Boy” is a very nice song, where the adult man looks back and tries to remember the little boy that he used to be.

Lyrics

I knew a boy, a little boy
A long, long time ago
His eyes were bright
His step was light
His heart was all aglow

And though his world
Was young and gay
A magic carousel
And all the happy
Games he played
I still recall so well

There came a time we said goodbye
We been apart since then
And no one knows as well as I
He won’t be back again

And though I search
Around the world until eternity
I’ll never find that little boy
That boy I used to be

About If I Ruled The World
“If I Ruled The World” was written for the 1963 West End musical Pickwick, based on Dicken’s The Pickwick Papers. Harry Secombe, the British actor, originated the role of Pickwick and his version of this song charted at #18 in the UK. The production opened in New York in 1965 on Broadway. Tony Bennett’s was one of the earliest American recordings and the song reached #34 on the US pop singles charts.

Lyrics

If I ruled the world,
Every day would be the first day of spring,
Every heart would have a new song to sing,
And we’d sing of the joy every morning would bring.

If I ruled the world,
Every man would be as free as a bird,
Every voice would be a voice to be heard,
Take my word we would treasure each day that occurred.

My world would be a beautiful place,
Where we would weave such wonderful dreams.
My world would wear a smile on its face,
Like the man in the moon has when the moon beams.

If I ruled the world,
Every man would say the world was his friend,
There’d be happiness that no man coud end,
No my friend, not if I ruled the world.

Every head would be held up high,
There’d be sunshine in everyone’s sky,
If the day ever dawned when I ruled the world

About How Insensitive
Written in 1963, Jobim based this composition on Chopin’s “Prelude No. 4.” This song has been widely recorded, including a very fine early recording with Jobim and Stan Getz for their 1963 album Jazz Samba Encore, Astrud Gilberto and João Gilberto recording.

Lyrics

How Insensitive
I must have seemed
When she told me that she loved me
How unmoved and cold
I must have seemed
When she told me so sincerely
“Why,” she must have asked,
Did I just turn and stare in icy silence?
What was I to say?
What can you say when a love affair is over?

Now she’s gone away
And I’m alone with the memory of her last look
Vague and drawn and sad
I see it still
All her heartbreak in that last look
“How,” she must have asked,
Could I just turn and stare in icy silence?
What was I to do?
What can one do when a love affair is over?
