Lyrics

Yesterday I heard the rain
Whispering your name
Asking where you’d goneIt fell softly from the clouds
On the silent crowds
As I wandered onOut of doorways black umbrellas
Came to pursue me
Faceless people as they passed
Were looking through me
No one knew meYesterday I shut my eyes
Face up to the skies
Drinking in the rain

But your image still was there
Floating in the air
Brighter than a flame

Yesterday I saw a city
Full of shadows without pity
And I heard the steady rain
Whispering your name
Whispering your name

About Whoever You Are, I Love You
“Whoever You Are, I Love You” is from the 1968 musical Promises, Promises, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Promises, Promises was based on the 1960 Billy Wilder film The Apartment.

Lyrics

Sometimes your eyes look blue to me
Although I know they’re really green
I seem to see you differently
Changing as I’m treating kindly
Or treated meanly
From moment to moment
You’re two different people
Faithful and warm when I’m in your arms
And then when you leave
You’re so untrue
But however you are
Deep down, whatever you are
Whoever you are, I love youSometimes I feel you’re mine alone
And yet I’m sure its just not so
I get this feeling on my own
After I learn if you’re staying
Or if you’re going
From moment to moment
You’re two different people
Someone I know as the girl I love
Or the girl I wish I never knew
But however you are
Deep down, whatever you are
Whoever you are, I love youSometimes your eyes look blue to me

About The Long and Winding Road
Although billed as a Lennon/McCartney song, “The Long and Winding Road” was written by Paul McCartney; it was released on the album Let It Be. The recording was controversial, as producer Phil Spector with an orchestra, harps and a women’s choir without McCartney’s permission or approval. Though the single did achieving the top spot on the charts, the experience was a major factor in the breakup of The Beatles. “The Long and Winding Road” is a fine song and has been recorded by artists from many genres, including Diana Ross, Kiri Te Kenawa, Richie Havens, George Benson and Ray Charles with Count Basie.

Lyrics

The long and winding road that leads to your door
Will never disappear
I’ve seen that road before it always leads me here
Leads me to your door

The wild and windy night that the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears crying for the day
Why leave me standing here, let me know the way
Many times I’ve been alone and many times I’ve cried
Anyway you’ll never know the many ways I’ve tried
And still they lead me back to the long and winding road
You left me standing here a long, long time ago
Don’t leave me waiting here, lead me to you door

But still they lead me back to the long and winding road
You left me standing here a long, long time ago
Don’t keep me waiting here (Don’t keep me wait), lead me to you door
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

About Little Green Apples
“Little Green Apples” was a country crossover hit that won the Grammy for Song of the Year for 1969.

Lyrics

And if that’s not lovin’ me
Then all I’ve got to say
God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And there’s no such thing as Doctor Seuss
Or Disneyland, and Mother Goose, no nursery rhyme

God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And when my self is feelin’ low
I think about her face aglow to ease my mind

And if that ain’t lovin’ me
Then all I’ve got to say
God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And there’s no such thing as make-believe
Puppy dogs, autumn leaves ‘n’ BB guns

God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t snow in Minneapolis when the winter comes
And when my self is feelin’ low
I think about her face aglow to ease my mind

If that’s not lovin’ me
Then all I’ve got to say
God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
There’s no such thing as Doctor Seuss
Disneyland, or Mother Goose, there’s no nursery rhyme

God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t snow in Indianapolis when the winter comes
And when my self is feelin’ low
I think about her face aglow to ease my mind

If that’s not lovin’ me
Then all I’ve got to say
That’s really lovin’ me
I mean that’s love

Is That All There Is?

About Is That All There Is?
Most people are familiar with Peggy Lee’s recording of this song, who recorded the song in January 1969. The lyrics for this song were inspired by a story by Thomas Mann, Disillusionment. Leiber’s wife Gaby, who escaped the Nazis from the Netherlands prior to the war, introduced her husband to the story and assisted with the lyrics. In fact, most of the words in the chorus are taken verbatim from the Mann story.

Lyrics

I remember when I was a very little kid, our house caught on fire.
I’ll never forget the look on my father’s face as he gathered me up
in his arms and raced through the burning building out to the pavement.
I stood there shivering in my underwear and watched the whole world go up in flames.
And when it was all over I said to myself, “Is that all there is to a fire?”

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that’s all there is my friends, then let’s keep dancing
Let’s break out the booze and have a ball
If that’s all there is

And when I was 12 years old, my father took me to the circus, the greatest show on earth.
There were clowns and elephants and dancing bears
And a beautiful lady in pink tights flew high above our heads.
And as I sat there watching the marvelous spectacle
I had the feeling that something was missing.
I don’t know what, but when it was over,
I said to myself, “Is that all there is to a circus?”

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that’s all there is my friends, then let’s keep dancing
Let’s break out the booze and have a ball
If that’s all there is

Then I fell in love, with the most wonderful girl in the world.
We would take long walks by the river or just sit for hours gazing into each other’s eyes.
We were so very much in love.
Then one day, she left me. And I thought I’d die — but I didn’t.
And when I didn’t I said to myself, “Is that all there is to love?”

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that’s all there is my friends, then let’s keep dancing

I know what you must be saying to yourselves.
If that’s the way he feels about it why doesn’t he just end it all?
Oh, no. Not me. I’m in no hurry for that final disappointment.
For I know just as well as I’m standing here talking to you,
when that final moment comes and I’m breathing my last breath, I’ll be saying to myself,

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that’s all there is my friends, then let’s keep dancing
Let’s break out the booze and have a ball
If that’s all there is
