About The Inch Worm
This song was written for the 1952 film Hans Christian Anderson, which starred Danny Kaye. In the film, Kaye is listening to the children in classroom reciting their arithmetic lesson and begins to sign about the inch worm he sees crawling in the flowers.

Lyrics

Two and two are four
Four and four are eight
That’s all you have on your business-like mind
Two and two are four
Four and four are eight
How can you be so blind?

Inch worm, inch worm
Measuring the marigolds
You and your arithmetic
You’ll probably go far

Inch worm, inch worm
Measuring the marigolds
Seems to me, you’d stop and see
How beautiful they are

Inch worm, inch worm
(Two and two are four)
Measuring the marigolds
(Four and four are eight)

You and your arithmetic
(Eight and eight are sixteen)
You’ll probably go far
(Sixteen and sixteen are thirty-two)

Inch worm, inch worm
(Two and two are four)
Measuring the marigolds
(Four and four are eight)

Seems to me, you’d stop and see
(Eight and eight are sixteen)
How beautiful they are
(Sixteen and sixteen are thirty-two)

Inch worm, inch worm
(Two and two are four)
Measuring the marigolds
(Four and four are eight)

You and your arithmetic
(Eight and eight are sixteen)
You’ll probably go far
(Sixteen and sixteen are thirty-two)

Inch worm, inch worm
(Two and two are four)
Measuring the marigolds
(Four and four are eight)

Seems to me, you’d stop and see
(Eight and eight are sixteen)
How beautiful they are
(Sixteen and sixteen are thirty-two)
Seems to me, you’d stop and see
How beautiful they are
